Assistant Professor
Dr Prathibha Ganesan is an Assistant Professor at the Administrative Staff College of India. She has a doctorate in Science Policy from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She has over ten years of research, teaching/training and consultancy experience, specialising in solid waste management and sanitation. She directs various capacity-building programmes, including “Online Professional Certificate Course on Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management”, “Certificate Programme on Garbage Free Cities: Achieving Five Star Rating in Garbage Free Cities in Scale”, and “Course on Climate Resilient Urban Management and Service Delivery”.
Dr. Prathibha also manages various funded projects in Sanitation, Solid Waste Management, and Climate Resilient Municipal Service Delivery. Dr Prathibha is involved with the Peer Learning Network for Garbage Free Cities and the Human Resource Assessment Study to improve the efficiency of implementation of SBM 2.0 in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, GoI. She is also a grantee for the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK, funds to develop an “Open Burning (Waste” Free Cities Framework”, aimed at the prevention of open burning of waste in the cities. She also led the project on “workers safety and well-being” funded by Thakur Foundation, USA which aimed at the prevention of accidents among the sanitation workers engaged in sewer and septic tank cleaning.
Before Joining ASCI, Dr Prathibha worked as an Assistant Professor at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, where she managed the Centre for Environmental Health and taught Master’s Students in Sanitation, Solid Waste Management, Research Methodology, and Water Quality and Health.
Dr Prathibha has trained about 500 municipal functionaries in Sanitation, Solid Waste Management and Climate Resilient Municipal Service Delivery. She has supervised over 20 students in research and has published extensively in national and international journals. Science, technology, and society are encompassing themes in her research.
