Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao Centre for Health Care Management

The Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao Centre for Health Care Management undertakes Research, Consulting, Training and Capacity building programs for the Government both at the centre as well as states and union territories in the areas of Health and Hospital Management, Health economics, Public Health, Health Policy, Quality in Health Care, Hospital Acquired infections, Health care analytics, Public Private Partnerships, Health Communication, Monitoring and Evaluation etc.

The Centre completed another year of successful conduct of the AICTE-approved Post-Graduate Diploma in Hospital Management (PGDHM) Programme and significantly improved the value and visibility of it. The Batch-14 (2019-21) of the programme had an intake of 60 students. The PGDHM involved a judicious mix of theoretical inputs, practice-oriented sessions, in-class assignments, exposure visits, case studies and analyses, theme-based group discussions, simulation exercises, management games, quizzes, role-plays, experience-sharing sessions and project presentations. A number of interactive sessions were arranged with senior executives from hospitals and health-care institutions, so that students were able to relate their learning to real-life scenarios, work-place challenges and stakeholder expectations, more closely. The curriculum was designed to build the requisite knowledge and skills and develop suitable attributes and competencies in the students so as enable them to succeed in their careers as effective administrators and managers in the various domains of the healthcare sector. Live projects in hospitals and public health institutions were incorporated in the curriculum.

More than fifty live projects were done by PGDHM students in various hospitals and public health institutions all over India in 2018-19 by Batch 13 in addition to the summer internship and final internship projects. Students did live projects and summer internships in reputed hospitals and other health care institutions in various parts of the country like Kokila Ben, Hinduja, Apollo, Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Manipal, Wockhardt, Fortis, Aster CMI, Aster Prime, KIMS, Medicover, Fernandez, Care, Medium Health Care Consulting, National Health Mission Kerala, Piramal Swasthya, Medium etc. The PGDHM Academic Advisory Board is headed by Dr P. Raghuram, Padmashri awardee and President, Association of Surgeons in India and provides valuable guidance to constantly enhance the quality of the programme. His inputs made the course content, curriculum and pedagogy up-to-date, providing holistic and enriched learning to the students. The Program has had yet another season of successful placements, with all the students of Batch 13 (2018-20) getting absorbed with market-indexed compensation packages in reputed organisations in the Hospitals, Healthcare IT and Public Health. Students were placed in reputed institutions like Deloitte, Primera, Drucare, Cipher Oncology, Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Medicover, Fernandez, KIMS, Lepra Society, Vijaya Diagnostics etc. Students proved their mettle by getting selected to present individual papers in the Annual Health Care Conferences and also won awards for posters and papers. A series of events were organised by the Centre’s students including an Alumni Meet.

Faculty of the Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao Centre for Health Care Management have also undertaken various other MDP activities including Monitoring and Evaluation of Indian Statistical Service Probationers, Hospital Quality and Infection control, Data analytics and Public Procurement for Health officials of Sri Lanka. The Centre collaborated with GIZ to provide capacity building on Ayushman Bharat: Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana ( PM-JAY) and did numerous capacity building training programs for States and Union Territories. AS part of this, the Centre conducted a series of programmes much to the satisfaction of the clients. As many as 320 participants were benefitted from about ten programmes, titled. Training on Ayushman Bharat: PMJAY for States and UTs. Another three programmes on the same theme for Railway officials were also conducted for the benefit of 190 officers. The Centre also did programmes on healthcare and hospitals for the health officials of Kerala, Odisha. The Centre completed a UNICEF research project on Management Review of Behavioral Change Communication for the health departments in three states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana. It also did a rapid assessment of Basthi Dawakhanas in Hyderabad and Rangareddy for National Urban Health Mission, Telangana. The Centre also has recently done/planning webinars and online programs in the areas of Public Health innovations, Hospital infection control, Disaster and Risk management in Health sector and Health data analytics.

The Centre is headed by Dr Subodh Kandamuthan, Professor and other faculty members of the centre are Dr Bhawna Gulati, Associate Professor, Dr Saswat Kishore Mishra, Assistant Professor and Dr. P M Priya Darshini, Assistant Professor. The PGDHM program is supported by Mr Mithun and Ms Husna.
