Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao Centre for Health Care Management

The Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao Centre for Health Care Management, Administrative Staff College of India(ASCI), undertakes Research, Consulting, Training and Capacity building programs for the Private sector  and  Government both at the centre as well as states and union territories in the areas of Health and Hospital Management, Health Economics, Public Health, Health Policy, Health Insurance, Quality in Health Care, Health care analytics, Public Private Partnerships, Leadership Development , Health Communication, Monitoring and Evaluation etc.

The Centre completed another year of successful conduct of the AICTE-approved Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (Hospital Management) Programme and significantly improved the value and visibility of it. The Batch-18 (2023-24) of the programme had an intake of 65 students. The PGDM (Hospital Management) involved a judicious mix of theoretical inputs, practice-oriented sessions, in-class assignments, exposure visits, case studies and analyses, theme-based group discussions, simulation exercises, management games, quizzes, role-plays, experience-sharing sessions and project presentations. A number of interactive sessions were arranged with senior executives from hospitals and health-care institutions, so that students were able to relate their learning to real-life scenarios, work-place challenges and stakeholder expectations, more closely. The curriculum was designed to build the requisite knowledge and skills and develop suitable attributes and competencies in the students so as enable them to succeed in their careers as effective administrators and managers in the various domains of the healthcare sector. Live projects in hospitals and public health institutions were incorporated in the curriculum.

Students did summer internships in reputed hospitals and other health care institutions in various parts of the country like Apollo, KIMS, Medicover, Fernandez, Medium Health Care Consulting, National Health Mission, CARE Hospitals etc. The PGDM (Hospital Management) Academic Advisory Board is headed by Dr P. Raghuram, Padmashri awardee and Chairman – KIMS Usha Lakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation and provides valuable guidance to constantly enhance the quality of the programme. His inputs made the course content, curriculum and pedagogy up-to-date, providing holistic and enriched learning to the students. The Program has had yet another season of successful placements, with all the students of Batch 17 (2021-23) getting absorbed with market-indexed compensation packages in reputed organisations in the Hospitals, Healthcare IT and Public Health and Health Insurance. Students were placed in reputed institutions like Deloitte, Primera, Zelis Healthcare, Star Hospitals, SIMS Healthcare, Cipher Oncology, Medicover, Fernandez, KIMS, AIG Hospitals etc. A series of events were also organised by the Centre including an Alumni Meet, Healthitude Intercollege Health Fest etc.

Faculty of the Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao Centre for Health Care Management have also undertaken various other MDP activities including Monitoring and Evaluation of Indian Statistical Service Probationers, Hospital Quality and Infection control, Data analytics and Public Procurement for Health officials. The Centre collaborated with GIZ to provide capacity building on Ayushman Bharat: Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), program on Health financing and Health insurance for National Health Authority, Government of India and did numerous capacity building training programs for States and Union Territories. As many as 320 participants were benefitted from about ten programmes, titled. Training on Ayushman Bharat: PMJAY for States and UTs. Another three programmes on the same theme for Railway officials were also conducted for the benefit of 190 officers. The Centre also did programmes on healthcare and hospitals for the health officials of Kerala, Odisha, Meghalaya etc. The Centre organised a one-year certificate training for State Health Authority officials Kerala on Health Financing and Health insurance. The Centre does regular three months Online certification program with contact classes at ASCI on Leadership Development for Mid- level managers in CARE group of Hospitals. The Centre also does regular programs for Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation on Monitoring and Evaluation for Indian Statistical Service Probationers and recently did a program on Public Private Partnerships for Government officials of Mongolia. The Centre also has signed MOUs with Access health International, IQVIA, SIMS Health Care and Innov Health for joint collaborations in Capacity building and Research.    

The Centre along with FTCCI came out with “Telangana Vision 20230 Document in Health Care”, which was submitted to the Telangana State Government. The Centre completed a UNICEF research project on Management Review of Behavioural Change Communication for the health departments in three states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana. The UNICEF-ASCI Research project on effectiveness of implementation of Anaemia Mukht Bharat Program in Karimnagar district. It also did a rapid assessment of Basti Dawakhanas in Hyderabad and Rangareddy for National Urban Health Mission, Telangana. The Centre also has recently done/planning webinars and online programs in the areas of Public Health innovations, Hospital infection control, Disaster and Risk management in Health sector and Health data analytics. The Centre also published reports on Covid forecasting, best practices and policy suggestions in collaboration with FICCI and FTCCI. A costing and rate revision study of various surgical and medical packages under the Aarogyasri Health Insurance Scheme of Telangana was undertaken as part of a research project and recommendations were submitted to the state government.

The Centre is headed by Dr Subodh Kandamuthan- Dean of Training Programs (Long Duration) and Professor and other faculty members of the centre are Dr Bhawna Gulati-Professor, Prof Sreedevi Ayaluri, Advisor, Dr. P M Priya Darshini-Assistant Professor, Dr. Reshma M Gopan- Assistant Professor, Dr. Abhishek Dondapati-Assistant Professor and supported by Ms. Sarita Jesse – Program Officer PGDM (Hospital Management), Ms. Sravanthi Program Coordinator and Mr. Shyam. The PGDM (Hospital Management) program also has a strong Admissions team led by Mr Acharya Govindhu and Placements team led by Mr Chandra Sudhir.
