Dr. Prakash Chauhan is an eminent space scientist and the current Director of the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He holds a postgraduate degree in Applied Geophysics from the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) and a Ph.D. in Physics from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad.
Joining ISRO in 1991 as a Scientist at the Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, Dr. Chauhan made pioneering contributions in the applications of space and remote sensing technologies for geosciences, atmospheric studies, and oceanographic research. He was instrumental in initiating planetary remote sensing research in India, significantly advancing lunar and Martian studies through Indian planetary missions.
Prior to leading NRSC, he served as the Director of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun, from April 2018. Over his distinguished career, he has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed research papers in leading national and international journals.
Dr. Chauhan is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), the Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS), and the Indian Social Science Academy. His exceptional contributions to the field have earned him numerous accolades, including the Asia-Pacific Regional Excellence Award in Space (2023) by APSRAF, the ISRO Merit Award (2010), and the Satish Dhawan Award (2016) by ISRS.
