Profile

Dipesh works as Associate Professor in the Center for Energy and Infrastructure Development of ASCI. He has experience of more than a decade in consulting and financial advisory in mining and energy sector with major focus on coal, iron ore, other minerals and power generation. Dipesh is a Mining Engineering graduate from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, India and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter-holder from Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India. He has also completed an executive program in business management from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

 

He has extensive experience in mining sector. He has worked on corporate planning and strategy formulation assignments with leading India mineral resources companies. He has led the team in transactions in the mining sector, through bidding and negotiated routes. He has worked on assignment ranging from the target identification and transaction support for acquisition of the mines in countries like Indonesia, Zambia, and Sri Lanka; bid process management for contractor selection; financial due diligence, commercial and regulatory due diligence, market analysis for coal and other minerals; and strategy formulations & business planning.  

 

He has worked on the contract mining business models from both the owners and contractors sides and has developed comprehensive solutions for this approach to project development. He has assisted government and private companies in selection of mine developer cum operator (MDO) and also contract mining companies in bidding for the MDO contracts for coal and iron ore mines in India, Indonesia and Zambia.

 

He has worked on corporate, financial and organizational restructuring of coal mining company. He has also worked on assignments of valuation, deal structuring and post-deal integration for coal mining and power generation companies.

 

He has done due diligence involving Operational and Financial due diligence, and valuation of businesses based on probabilistic projections for Feasibility Studies leading to client’s investment decision. He has done valuation of equities of client businesses for Private Placements and for Initial Public Offers leading to changes in capital structures and legal standing of companies, preparation of business plans for innovative business ideas and others.

 

Prior to joining ASCI, Dipesh has worked with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Pvt Ltd as director in consulting practice, with Maamba Collieries Ltd in Zambia as CEO and with PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt Ltd as Principal Consultant in Energy, Utilities and Mining practice. He has also worked with NMDC Limited in the Bailadila iron ore mines in Chhattisgarh.

 

Dipesh has recently been awarded the Abheraj Baldota Gold Medal for the Young Mining Engineer of the Year 2007 by the Mining Engineers’ Association of India in recognition of his contributions in the improvement of mining industry in India.
