Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Management

The need for professionally trained hospital managers is being increasingly felt in Indian hospitals, whether private or public, new or old, large or small. The Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Management [PGDHM] of the Administrative Staff College of India [ASCI] responds to this need. This programme equips the students to build a career not only in hospitals but also in related roles in IT, Health-care delivery and management, Health insurance, Biotechnology, Pharma etc.

ASCI-PGDHM Program

The ASCI Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital management (ASCI-PGDHM) is an AICTE-approved two-year full-time programme. The programme capacity is 60 students, in one batch.

ASCI delivers this programme in four semesters; the first three comprise classroom teaching, practical work / field work (July to December 2013; January to April 2014; and July to December 2014), a Summer Project during May to June 2014, and the fourth semester comprises industry internship at hospitals and healthcare institutions during January to May 2015.

Course Curriculum: The course curriculum is designed to cover the conceptual and qualitative skills needed by administrators/managers in current day hospitals. While hospitals are at the core, the program also deals with associated sectors in the healthcare arena. The curriculum is constantly updated to address emerging areas in healthcare.

The Programme is rigorous and practice-oriented with a teaching approach that combines classroom lectures with case studies, team discussions, presentations and field visits to a wide variety of hospitals. Students are provided ample opportunities on live projects of hospitals.

Unique combination of operational and strategic inputs, coupled with cross-functional perspective and application-orientation of the programme prepares the graduates to make a mark for themselves in the industry.

Industry-Institute Interaction: As mentioned above, the programme has about eight weeks of summer project after the 2nd semester ensuring corporate immersion. During the industry internship after the 3rd semester, participants undergo training for about sixteen weeks with a hospital or a healthcare organization. The internship is designed to help bridge the gap between academic preparation and the field of practice, making the participant learning comprehensive and holistic.

Faculty: Faculty with the right combination of academic and corporate exposure from healthcare and related industries teach in the programme.

Placements: Participants who have completed the programme have found placements in leading hospitals and many healthcare organizations. ASCI Alumni are today in responsible roles in reputed organizations such as: (Hospitals) Aditya, Apollo, KIMS, Mediciti, Kamineni, Care, Manipal, Wockhardt, Sahara, Seven Hills, Fernandez, Arvind Eye, Sterling, Vikram, Bombay, Max Super-specialty, Medica Synergie, Fortis, Suburban Diagnostics etc.; (Healthcare) Infosys, ICICI Lombard, iSoft, Asclepius, Vaatslaya, HOSMAC etc.

Location: The programme is anchored in the Centre for Healthcare Management, ASCI at its centrally located College Park Campus at Banjara Hills in Hyderabad, the healthcare capital of the country.
