About the Centre for Environment, Urban Governance and Infrastructure Development (CEUG&ID)

 CEUG&ID (hereon referred to as the ‘Centre’) has established a strong presence particularly in the areas of water and environmental sanitation. The Centre is committed to improving the lives of 70 million people by 2030, particularly women and vulnerable populations, by transforming environmental sanitation and water services in urban India. The Centre is an action-oriented global thought leader in environmental sustainability in the areas of water, sanitation, and solid waste management. Over time, it has built a national reputation for solving deep-rooted causes of poor governance and weak accountability low administrative capacity in India’s cities through piloting and scaling systemic multi-dimensional solutions.

Position : Assistant Professor / Manager-Strategic Partnerships and Funder Relations

Job Description 

Invites applications from outstanding individuals who have experience in funder management and partnership development, particularly securing funding opportunities with governments, multilateral institutions, and international foundations, in addition to monitoring the grants for compliance.

About the role 

The candidate will actively coordinate with the Centre Director and faculty members to drive Centre’s efforts on fundraising and partnerships development. This position occupies a mid-management tier at the Centre.


  1. Build and deepen the funder base 
    • Examine and assess prospective funders to identify their key messages, investment priorities, business objectives, and areas of shared value
    • Build relationships with priority funders across government, foundations, corporate and individual philanthropies, over the next few years, so that the Centre emerges as the first port of call for the funders for any project
    • Develop key communication messages directed at the funder community, which include concept notes, letters of intent, and other communication materials
    • Provide support to leadership team, staff, and volunteers with key messages for prospective funders, wherever appropriate
  1. Research and explore new funding opportunities 
    • Constantly scan leads on new WASH funding opportunities that are of relevance to ASCI. Follow up on leads to further investigate the fit and value-add, based on which:
  • Respond to a call for consultant, proposal, or financial award (or)
  • Seek to forge a relationship, aimed at securing funding
    • Scan and research opportunities across subscribed mailing lists, calls for proposals, leads from Faculty and database
  1. Lead proposal writing efforts 
  • Scan and research call for proposals for fit and submit high-quality proposals
  • Project-manage the development of proposal content and submission, for both solicited and unsolicited proposals
  1. Oversee grants & Agreements 
    • Support project managers to ensure the needs of the funder and conditions of the grant are met, particularly towards drafting progress narrative or financial reports
    • Review contracts, assess funder requirements and negotiate agreements, organize kick off meetings and set up project reporting systems to transition successful proposals to completed projects
    • Maintain funder relationships throughout the grant: ensure submission of timely reports, on-time communication of changes/problems, and compliance as per funder’s requirements
  1. Annual fund development strategy 
    • Set up and maintain systems to project, track, and report funder revenue activity to the board and staff periodically


  • Education: Graduate / Postgraduate (preferred) degree in business management or other similar domains 
  • Work Experience:  
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in fundraising 
  • A proven track record of raising funds from diverse set of funders such as foundations, CSRs, etc.  
  • Strong experience in drafting proposals in line with funder expectations
  • Experience in sourcing business opportunities from the government
  • Relationships with known funders in development sector will be seen as an added advantage

  • Assistant Professor: Pay scale 55520 - 97470 & Gross Pay per Month Rs.97715/- at minimum of scale.
