About the Centre for Environment, Urban Governance and Infrastructure Development (CEUG&ID)

 CEUG&ID (hereon referred to as the ‘Centre’) has established a strong presence particularly in the areas of water and environmental sanitation. The Centre is committed to improving the lives of 70 million people by 2030, particularly women and vulnerable populations, by transforming environmental sanitation and water services in urban India. The Centre is an action-oriented global thought leader in environmental sustainability in the areas of water, sanitation, and solid waste management. Over time, it has built a national reputation for solving deep-rooted causes of poor governance and weak accountability low administrative capacity in India’s cities through piloting and scaling systemic multi-dimensional solutions.

 Position: Associate Professor

Job Description:  Solid Waste Management

Invites applications from outstanding professionals – who have the enthusiasm and sense of urgency to effect change with domain knowledge in Urban sanitation, Wastewater management, non- sewered sanitation and decentralized wastewater management are priority areas.

About the role

 The chosen candidate in this position will develop business and lead a team to drive Centre’s efforts on solid waste management exclusively and is expected to report to the Director or any designated officer. This position occupies a mid-management tier at the Centre.

Responsibilities 

  • Field Level Project Implementation: Ensure proper planning and successful execution of all the Centre’s field implementation projects across solid waste management and allied sectors.
  • Policy Advisory and Advocacy: Advise the government in developing national & state policies and guidelines focused on solid waste management and support governments on the implementation of the same. 
  • Business Development: Meet the planned business development goals by building and fostering partnerships and by obtaining funding for new projects from varied stakeholders.
  • Teaching: Provide capacity-building support in solid waste management and other fields to key decision-makers and ensure delivery of academic programs (diplomas and masters).
  • Research: Demonstrate intellectual depth for high-quality action research, lead interdisciplinary research and teaching collaborations, and deliver cutting-edge research in the broad fields of solid waste management.
  • Organization Development: Contribute to organizational/administrative activities, act as a liaison and advisor to the organization’s leadership and facilitate internal capability building initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Education: Post Graduation or Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering/Environmental Science/Urban Planning or any other closely related discipline with specialization in municipal solid waste management.
  • Work Experience:
  • About 12 years of sector experience across teaching and research in solid waste management
  • Experience in development of PPP models, procurement guidelines, and policies with government
  • Experience in technical documentation and in the design and delivery of urban sector training programs to practitioners
  • Experience in sourcing business opportunities including training, consultancy and research assignments

The Salary Package

  • Associate Professor: Pay scale 134420 - 235830 & Gross Pay per Month Rs.236579/- at minimum of scale.

Higher emoluments may be considered for exceptionally deserving candidates.

The positions carry a number of benefits apart from the gross pay, such as Conveyance Allowance (1680 – 4500), Contributory PF @12% of Basic + DA, Leave Encashment, Medical, LTA and family accommodation in campus in lieu of HRA. These appointments are on a contractual basis, initially for a period of three years, subject to probation of one year and fulfillment of specified work norms. After three years the appointment is renewable subject to satisfactory performance.  The age of superannuation is 60 years.
