On 9th Feb 2012 the Union Cabinet approved the National Data Sharing and Accessibility Policy – 2012 (NDSAP-2012).

The objective of the policy is to facilitate access to the Government of India owned data and information that can be shared with the public in human and machine readable forms through a country-wide network. It will be updated periodically taking into account developments in this area.

The National Data Sharing and Accessibility Policy will apply to all data and information collected and recorded using public funds provided by the Government of India directly or through authorised agencies.

The Environment Area of ASCI worked with the Department of Science and Technology in developing the Policy.

As a follow up to the now approved Policy at the national level, the state governments will be invited to enroll themselves in this effort of data- sharing exercise. At the invitation of DST, ASCI will be contributing to this exercise of promoting the enrollment of the state governments.
